Never the Same Party Twice
We hosted two parties - one with some coworkers and one with some friends from book club. It was so interesting how different the party could be with different groups of people. It depends so much on who plays what part and how seriously some people take their role. We had a "mandatory" character cancel last minute for our second party, but we just rolled with it, and it turns out they weren't essential at all. The party went great! For both parties, the murderer was correctly guessed, although the conversations to get there were totally different and very entertaining. So much fun -- both times!
  • First party: Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, Gluten-Free Cornbread, Red Beans & Rice, Muffaletta, Fruit Salad, Louisiana Crunch Cake, Rum Slush, Watermelon Punch (non-alcoholic)
Second party: Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya, French Baguette, Muffaletta, Fruit Salad, King Cake, Rum Slush, Watermelon Punch (non-alcoholic)
  • Found a Youtube video with an hour+ of jazz music to play on the TV during the party; Had green, purple, gold balloons just on the floor, metallic gold tablecloth on dining room table, purple string lights, metallic door fringe to separate the room where the murder happens from the rest of the party area (so people wouldn't find clues too early).

First time success
First time ever doing a murder mystery party and the kit had everything needed to guide me through the process. We had a blast! Now I have set the bar high so we have to do it again! Definitely recommend this party kit!

Very busy event with lots of chatter.
We had the Mardi Gras Murder Mystery party. We had approximately 30 people and lots of children. The extended version of the event went very well.
  • Used all the music and sound effects for the event which worked really well. Our event was during the day, so had everyone close their eyes for the blackout.

Best Mardi Gras Murder Mystery Ever!!
My very first time hosting a Mardi Gras, Masks, & Murder mystery dinner. I was super nervous at first but everything turned out fabulous. All my guests had a great time. This mystery might be a little tough for introverts because it requires a lot of interaction. I think one of the highlights of the event is the scavenger hunt.
  • I decided to go all out with my menu. I served Jambalaya with chicken, cajun sausage, shrimp, & crab meat; Red Beans & rice, honey butter cornbread, veggie tray, fruit tray, brownies, banana pudding cheesecake, wine, punch, and juice.
  • I used candles and lighting to set the mood. I also used balloons, and a Mardi Gras photoshoot backdrop, lanyards were used for the name tags, costumes, and definitely the Mardi Gras music to set the tone.

Mardi Gras Party during Fat Tuesday.
We wanted to have our first dinner party at our new house and thought what better way than a murder mystery party. I thought that it would be difficult and way too many moving parts. However, I he guide that comes along with the murder mystery kit broke everything down and even had a schedule to plan the entire event from sending out rsvp to the organization of the murder mystery game night. We had 12 people play and what I love is that it gave me a roll in the game that allowed me to play and host at the same time. We had food and drinks that was suggested and a wonderful time with friends. We will be doing this about every quarter. I highly recommend this product for both its price and quality.
  • Gumbo, shrimp, cocktails, red beans and rice, king cake.
  • Made homemade props and candles for the blackout portion in act 2.

Could be better
Family vacation murder mystery night at the beach. We’ve done this in the past. Our family enjoys dressing for their characters and doing their best acting. We all found that there could have been more information given to help the mingling in Act I. We had a great time and will likely do others at future gatherings.

Don’t think about it - just do it!!!
This was birthday celebration Mardi Gras style! We had decorations all of the patio and the inside the house. We had 12 people, all dressed up and living their part. This was SO much fun! I highly recommend it - I can’t wait to do it again.
  • We made shrimp etouffe, corn bread muffins, red beans and rice and a Mardi Gras cake for dessert!
  • Mardi Gras decorations everywhere including a photo backdrop, NOLA street signs, table cloths, table runners, banners, masks, beads decorations from the ceiling, hurricane glasses and, of course, hurricanes!!!

Sorority monthly social Big hit with everyone
The clues didn't really seem to help much. The characters were great and the lack of script really let a lot of personality come out.
  • placed masks and beads around. Let everyone jut go with the characters

My best party ever!
I wanted my 50th birthday to be special and something to remember - not just to me, but to all of my guests. The preparations for this Mardi Gras-party took a while, especially because I had to translate all the character sheets into Danish, but it was really worth it … but the party was a blast, and it was really funny to see the caracters come to life
  • I tried to make everything so easy as possible for myself and my helpers in the kitchen - at first appetizers and drinks to give my guests the posibility to mingle. I had cooked jambalaya i advance, which was served with bread and salads and the dessert was homemade pecan bars with ice cream, fruit and chocolate sauce - very easy, very tasty. ????
  • I had decorated the dining roon with Mardi Gras-colors (purple, green and gold) and had placed ‘mysterious and religiuys’ artefacts all over my apartment, but especially in Marshall Inglewoods office, among these Hrafn’s Crown and a plastic shield and a golden lamp. Besides I found a video on YouTube with 12 hours of fireplace, which was also a great scene setter together with the mp3-music file provided with the guide book.

Murder and Mayhem the Mardi Gras Way
Wife's 50th Bday Party. Event went well even though I didn't think I prepared it well enough. My first time trying this type of event but everyone said they had a good time. I did themed music but not food or drinks. Everyone dressed their part in costume. I got character sheets out to each participant ahead of time. It was fun

Let the Good Times Roll!!!
There were 12 of us and it was the best night!! The game gives so much info on each character on the character sheets as well as on the gossip sheets. Everyone played the parts perfectly and the fact that they didn’t have a script to go by made it more interesting and fun!!
  • We had Gumbo, Jambalaya and King Caked overnighted from Randazzo’s in NOLAn And a pitcher of Hurricanes!!
  • The house was decorated with Mardi Gras themed decorations!

Great costumes and fun characters!
This is my second year hosting a murder mystery written by Playing with Murder, and it was just as big a success at last year! This year I did "Mardi Gras Masquerade" and everyone loved the theme. I was able to get the physical scavenger hunt clues on Amazon and make my own museum with them for the party. I love how detailed these mysteries are, and they are well worth the money! I also enjoy the flexibility of using "investigators" if you have extra characters that want to participate. I plan to do this every October. I love hosting and planning the party and my friends love coming to it!
  • We had Apple Cider Sangria, Jambalaya, and homemade beignets.
  • I purchased lots of Mardi Gras decorations to hang around the rooms. I also used a 50 pack of tea lights to simulate the museum with props bought from Amazon- as opposed to only using paper clues.

First Time Success!
We did the Mardi Gras Murder with our church young adult group and they had a great time. It was simplistic, but we know see how we can expand it for next time. We learned a lot about the process while working everything, but even with our inexperience, it went very well. We are looking for the next murder mystery event to be even better! thanks!
